Our Values
Most company values sound the same.
Excellence, Innovation, Respect.
But, these aren’t just words you can put on a wall;
they’re outcomes.
They’re the result of focusing on what truly matters: people.
Our work is a commitment to the individuals who will live in the places we create, the team members who bring our vision to life, and the teams that share our journey. By putting their success and well-being first, we build a foundation where excellence and innovation thrive.
Looking for a
development partner?
Working with an experienced developer is vital to realising the full potential of a large-scale vision. True expertise transcends design; it is the ability to navigate the entire project lifecycle, from strategic acquisition and complex approvals to final community activation. An established relationship de-risks investment and unlocks enduring value by transforming land into a thriving, sought-after destination.
A rich history and a bright future.
Bruno Tapiolas Vila
In 1911, a 20-year-old Bruno Tapiolas Vila arrived in Australia from an economically devastated Spain, chasing the promise of a better life. He worked tirelessly, at first without pay, on a North Queensland cane farm, with only the promise of equity. It wasn’t long before that promise became reality, and Bruno owned the farm outright.
Australia lived up to its reputation as the land of opportunity. Bruno’s farm flourished, laying the financial foundations for what was to come. His inventive spirit led to the creation of efficient irrigation systems still used today.
After WWII, with building materials in short supply, Bruno travelled 400km to the Atherton Tablelands to source timber for a new family home. That trip sparked an idea, he began selling the timber he brought back, and in 1947, Parkside was born in Ayr as a timber sales and joinery business.
Driven by the same pioneering spirit, Bruno later founded Tropical Homes, now one of Queensland’s largest project home builders.
With sons Wilfred, Brunie, and Joe by his side, Parkside quickly grew. In 1962, they acquired their first sawmill in Eungella, followed by expansion into Townsville and then Mackay. More sawmills followed across Queensland, and in 2019, Parkside expanded nationally into WA and Victoria, now Australia’s largest hardwood miller, supplying world-class timber across the globe.
The Tapiolas family also turned to land and commercial development, creating estates across Ayr and Townsville and building a retail property portfolio aligned with major brands like Coles and Woolworths.
In 2013, Parkside reached further, opening South Pacific Homes Ltd in Papua New Guinea, a country full of promise, just as Australia had once been for Bruno.
Today, over a century since Bruno stepped off the boat, his legacy lives on. Parkside is a major force in timber, construction, and development, led by Peter and Dianne Tapiolas, with Joe in an advisory role and the fourth generation, Michael and Steven, now shaping its next chapter.
